The last week of pre-school had some theme days,
Jordy wanted to be Iron Man on "character/hero day"
and for "crazy hair day" he got to colour his hair blue!
here he is with Ella, who we think he has a crush on!
He always points to her picture on the bulletin board when Daddy drops him off!
On graduation day
Jordan is attending Summer Play Group with his pre-school friends this week and next week, but after that school is out until September. We got to see some of his classmates graduate at the end of June. Check out the video above for a nice tribute to the year.
We have made the excruciating decision to remove ourselves from the auspices of DCS after Summer Play Group, in favour of the program at Children's Hearing & Speech Centre in Vancouver. It's not a choice we made lightly, and the reasons behind it are complex, but in the interest of keeping it simple, it boils down to the fact that Jordy is a speaker: he talks all the time at home, and now when he is in school he almost never communicates at all. Occasionally he will support his speech with sign, but he is now past the point where he relies on ASL. We definitely have no regrets about having had Jordy in the DCS preschool, they were able to bring him out of his shell and get him communicating but we think he has come to a crossroads and it's time to take his communication to the next level, and at CHSC they take a very aggressive approach to speech. They do not use ASL at all, and they strongly focus on instilling self-advocacy in the kids. In addition to that, they offer the flexibility of before and after school care, class 5x weekly and if we feel he is still not ready for a mainstream kindergarten at the end of the school year, they offer K-3 classrooms as well! We want to prepare Jordan to go to a hearing school and live in a hearing world, and we think that CHSC will help us to do so. It's not cheap, it's going to cost us quite a bit more to send him to school there, particularly if we do enroll him beyond pre-school, but we are intent upon doing whatever is right for Jordy. Anyhow, enough of that SCHOOL talk for now, it's SUMMER TIME!
Chocolate cupcakes will never go out of style.
The same, however, cannot be said for the Hitler 'stache!
Had to throw in these pics of Cygni
on a particularly silly and adorable pigtail day
There was once a time, not long ago, that Jordy needed help getting across the platforms...
We met our friend and former SL-P, Sydelle, her boy Jake and sweet baby Shea at Hume Park before our big camping trip. It was nice to finally meet little Shea and it was also very nice to splash in the cool water on a very hot day!
Jakey goofing!
And then last week we went to check out the Caribbean Festival in Maple Ridge and bumped into cousin Isabella and Jerry. Bella loved dancing with the Zumba crew and Cygni did a little dancing of her own to a gospel choir's rendition of Stand By Me!
There are more summer fun times to come. We hope you're enjoying your summer too!
