Well, we as we prepare to ring in a new year, we get a moment to sit back and take a deep breath after the exertions of the holidays. As you can see, Christmas with the Dumaresqs is just about a month long endeavour! Our Christmas was lovely and Santa was also very good to us. Though Mom and Dad's ultimate plan is to make our family holiday traditions more about things which we do together than about things which come wrapped up with a bow. Please enjoy some of our photos:
We had a couple of snow days the last week of school,
while home with Mommy, Jordy was able to help bake up some goodies to share
with his classmates and visitors to our house, including Santa!
Jordy's favourite parts about helping to make treats are turning on the mixer,
adding flour to the mixer, and tasting!
Just some of the treats we prepared together!
Goodie boxes for pre-school!
In turn, Jordy also loved getting treats from his classmates!
Then, the last Sunday before Christmas Mommy got the idea in her head to go visit Grouse Mountain, as they have sleigh rides, reindeer and ice skating all in a real winter wonderland. It was supposed to be a magical winter activity we would recall fondly for years to come, but Daddy expressed his doubts. Well, Dad's gut was right, Jordy started to show signs of anxiety as we waited for the gondola up the mountain, and whined and begged to be carried. And he somehow found the energy and motivation to whine and beg to be carried the rest of the time we were on the mountain! He would not skate, even though he said he wanted to and adamantly refused to walk anywhere on his own, seemingly able to increase body mass and density by sheer will. Who knew our child had super powers!?! And circumstances were such that the queue to leave was as even longer than every other activity offered, which says a lot as the lineup to go on the sleigh was an hour long! So we couldn't even decide, "that's it! We're leaving!" As we'd have been in line with two cantankerous kids for a long wait. What to do? Well, after giving up on the sleigh ride 1/3 of the way through the queue, we decided we'd go into the chalet for a bit of warmth and food, and to wait out the worst of the line to leave in hopes that the majority of people would get in the lineup and leave before we made the decision to go too. Jordy settled down after a snack and a cuddle and Cygni straight passed out asleep for a good hour. We got Daddy to scope out the line-up to leave and then he called Mommy to bring the kids when the wait was minimal. We spent nearly $100 and 3 hours on Grouse, and we didn't do a thing! It certainly was a memorable day, at least! We look forward to trying this activity again when the kids are past being able to hold us hostage by forcing us to carry them.... say, in 3 or 4 years! We never did figure out what set Jordan off, whether is was the gondola ride or the crowds, or just bad timing.
Cygni was kept happy eating snow... at first anyway!
Thanks Lola and Grandpa Tom for Cygni's stylish snowsuit - it kept her warm the whole time!
Above is Jordy crying and whining, something he did 95% of our visit,
below is a rare moment of him sort of smiling.
As Jordy says, "Santa ate cookies, all gone!"
Jordy getting the goodies out of his stocking!
Jordan's gift from Santa was a Yo Gabba Gabba boombox theater.
How did Santa know that J-man had been checking this out on the Yo Gabba Gabba website for weeks?
Ahh, the Hungry Hungry Hippos game!
A game Mom & Dad remember from their own childhoods!

Since it was just the four of us for Christmas dinner this year
and a huge amount of stuff to prepare for Boxing Day,
Mom went for a smaller dinner entree idea that she could prep ahead on Christmas Eve,
a Turkey Wellington. She is VERY proud of it and it was quite tasty!
On Boxing Day we held our annual Open House as usual.
Above is a pic of some of the neighbourhood kids who came over
and played with Jordan in his new bedroom!
Mommy and Cindi drinking up!
Cygni was pretty shy at first, but eventually Dan got the fives he asked for!
It's all over now, but Cygni still loves cuddling her new Pillow Pet! And her Daddy!
And the final bit of news: Daddy got Cygni to take a piece of garbage to the trash can today! There was a balled up napkin on the floor, and Daddy was feeling lazy so, not thinking she would actually do it, he said to baby girl, "Cygni will you take that to the garbage?" And.... she did. Yay!
