It's 10am on Monday, May 25th...Deb's birthday. Apparently she received a nice present yesterday. You could even say I gave it to her. Does that mean I'm off the hook for buying a present today?
I didn't write much in our update last night...what more was there to say? Everyone is healthy and doing great.
Things started happening very quickly around 6:45pm when the baby's heartbeat went higher than they liked and Deb was still at 6cm after many hours of oxytocin. They decided that it would take another 12 hours on oxytocin to get fully dilated and that was too long with the high heartbeat. So shortly after 7pm the doctors came in to prep Deb for the OR. I got into some scrubs (which also make great pyjamas) and waited for 5 minutes outside the OR door.
I was taken in and sat beside Deb's head. Since nobody wants to see a c-section there was a barrier between us and 'the action'. I mostly spoke to Deb and squidged her earlobes. She was shaking...I think a combination of nerves and a lot of adrenaline. But she was awesome...kept her breathing nice and regular and had NO problems.
Jordan as born at 7:29. He was cleaned and checked and got his first family photos. Deb was then taken to recovery while I went with Jordan. He was assessed, weighed, measured and given the usual newborn things. While I was watching this, Mark and Aaida showed up and we all walked to our room. About 2 minutes later, Nanny Dumaresq showed up. She was happy and emotional. At this time I also called Grandpa Young to give them the good news.
We all hung out for an hour or so. Lots of pictures were taken. A few phonecalls were made. Deb got to speak to her Mom around 11:15 but Deb was starting to feel nauseous and she was tired so she didn't speak long.
After Nanny, Mark and Aida left around 10pm we started to wind down. Deb fed Jordan for the first time. He didn't eat much but he seemed satisfied. Then he got his frist bath from one of the nurses while Mom and Dad watched closely.
During the night he got up a few times. At 3:30am he made some fun sounds and then got his first diaper change. 1 down. He settled down the most when he was on Mommy's chest so Deb held on to him for much of the night. She'll need her sleep today. Daddy got up to help with Jordan since Deb's c-section precludes her from doing a lot of lifting.
Around 8am Daddy packed up some things that we no longer needed and took them to the car where he also got Deb's suitcase (Good job Deb putting that in the car a week ago!).
Now I'm home to check on Smokey, send a couple of work emails and maybe snag a nap.
I don't think they are following this blog, but HUGE thanks to Orval and Sandy Crosby for taking my phone call at 10:15pm asking them to feed Smokey! Poor guy musta been wondering why we up and left at 4am!
