Small Osoyoos Getaway

Daddy took a week off, starting with Mommy's birthday and though we are still recovering from the mayhem that was Jordan's party, we thought we would escape the rainy lower mainland for a couple of days and take off to Osoyoos for a tiny vacation.  We left on Thursday morning and got to the beach in time to enjoy several hours of play.  It wasn't summery warm and though the lake in the middle of summer is often described as bath water, it was pretty durn cold this time of year.  Much too cold for our little cutie-girl.  But did that stop Jordy?

Baby girl kept much warmer on the beach.
She's a little spotted because she was getting over a bout of Roseola

Did we really have to ask?
He must get this cold-water-courage from his Nanny.

We considered taking J-man for his first mini-golf, but decided that he was still a bit young, and would definitely try next time we visited.  The ol' Mini Golf Course has really expanded with all kinds of amusements attached.  The Leatons will recall some fun times spent there last trip, and perhaps now that we have kids we can vacation here again at some future date, there is a lot to occupy them at Rattlesnake Canyon.  Check out the link here.  Of course we had to have ice cream at the windmill too, it's a tradition!

 This face says it all!

We had the beach to ourselves nearly the whole visit!

But Mr. Mallard came to say hi for a little while

It was a nice break away from the day to day in suburbia.

On our way home on Saturday, we made the mistake of letting Jordan play with the iPad a bit and you could tell it was making him a little queasy.  Fortunately we know what this looks like before there's a big mess, as we have learned the hard way from a couple of drives in to preschool, so we pulled over and got the little dumer some fresh air.  Now, Mommy had anticipated this possibility and packed some Gravol, but how to get him to take it we had not considered!  First way we tried was to stuff it into a fruit bar.  Nope.  Then Daddy crushed one up and spiked Jordan's water: one taste of that and there was no getting him to drink more!  He was looking better, so we decided to press on and hope he'd be okay.  But about ten minutes down the road, even though his colour was coming back he started doing that thing where he tips his head back against the head rest and shuts his eyes really tight and we could tell he was fighting the nausea again.  So I turned around and pulled into the only cafe in an 85 km stretch and we tried to regroup.  Finally it was decided to go in and again try to find something to slip the medication into.  The waitress helped out by suggesting crushing it up and putting it in some jam or peanut butter, we tried the PB and then put it between two crackers.  Well, Chris had put all the gravol into one half of the cracker-wich and I am sure you can figure out which half Jordan managed to avoid!  Finally we were down to the last tablet and by then the whole population of the restaurant knew what we were up to.  The owner and chef, Dave, came up with the idea of sneaking it into some whipped cream, something Jordan cannot turn down.  This worked... mostly.  He took a big mouthful and before he realised something was amiss we reckon he took about half a dose.  As we left the restaurant (with a big tip for the server,) Jordan insisted on grabbing his cracker-wich.  Daddy and I shared a rueful laugh, damned if we didn't have to be careful now not to overdose him between the leftover cracker-wich, the whipped cream, and what little he got from the water!  And the rest of the trip was uneventful, thankfully!

And Cygni's 6 month portraits are in,
I'll be mailing those out to the grandfolks and soon!
Isn't she a sweet little prima ballerina!?
