Signing "Mommy"

Okay, so we were wrong all those weeks ago when we were interpretting Jordan's sign (the splayed hand with thumb tapping his other palm) as "more." He's actually signing "Mommy!" Hooray! I was his first sign! Check out the video we`ve included, it`s not a head-on angle, so it may be a little unclear for those unfamiliar with the sign; to see a still photo of the sign you can go back to the blog archives to the post on Friday, march 12.

Just this weekend he also began signing "Daddy" off and on, but that sign looks quite different. It is in the right place, at his forehead, but it looks more like a salute or sometimes even like a smack on the head in frustration (Doh! Daddy!) I get quite a kick out of that description!

Finally got the kiddo to the public health unit and he is weighing in at 22 lbs. He is just the right weight for his age, maybe even just a titch below, so all those little old ladies who keep saying he is SO BIG! can take that one to the BINGO hall.

He has been doing well at daycare, every time he goes he gets better about seeing us leave and a little less clingy through the day. Good thing too, because he starts 3 days a week this coming Monday! We discovered that though he will eat just about anything for his mother, at daycare he prefers food he can handle himself, so we have been gradually getting away from the pureed stuff in the jars and giving him real grown-up food that he can pick up with his fingers. Found out he likes lima beans a lot, so I am not sure he is my child after all.

A cool new development, which I may be messing up by announcing, is that Jordan has been sleeping through the night for about a week! He will usually, once or twice, wake and whine a bit in the wee hours, but he has managed each night, to roll over and go back to sleep after no more than a few minutes! Usually he`ll bunk down anywhere between 9:30 and 11, though he has been going at the earlier time-frame the last few days and then will wake up any time between 7 and 9 am. It`s pretty luxurious for me. Although tonight he woke up after a couple of hours of sleep, crying inconsolably. We think he is teething (I know, I know, I have been saying that for months!) but after a few frozen berries, a hit of Tylenol and a snuggle with Mommy on the couch, he is back in bed, hopefully for the night. Which reminds me, I need to hit the sack myself.

Once again, here is a link to the sign of the week, "drink."
