Birthday and Ice Skating

Yesterday was not only Daddy's Birthday, but also G-pa D's Birthday!  Happy Birthdays!

We celebrated today by opening a few gifts for Daddy then taking him out for breakfast.  While we were at breakfast Cygni was playing with the iPad (it comes in handy when restless kids are waiting in restaurants, let me tell ya!) and while playing with the "Build It Up" app (an education toddler app, which teaches how to stack in sequence, usually from largest to smallest,) she demonstrated that she can correctly build the stack of presents!  Well, Mommy and Daddy were dumbfounded!  We had rarely seen her even try that game!  She did it effortlessly, and without any mistakes, of course, Mom didn't have her camera ready, so we don't have it documented.  Still we think she is a freakin' genius!  We re-created the moment somewhat at home, check out the video at the end of the post.  Afterward brekkie we came home and opened some gifts and ate some yummy birthday cake.

Daddy and Jordy waiting for breakfast.  If you ask J-man how old Daddy is he will say, "SIX!"

Last night we had a grown-up birthday party for Daddy and The Drivers and the Lees came with us to Chada Thai, one of Chris' favourite restaurants.  He ordered his usual, the Thai Green Curry and Mommy ordered the Pad See Iew.  Delicious!  Afterwards we came home and the sitter had already put the kiddos to bed (yay!) so we chatted and played cards til it was late.  Dad says it was a good birthday!

Sorry for the quality of the video below, it's a little fuzzy and Cygni didn't have the screen rotated right side up for her this time, but when you need to capture these toddler moments you don't always have time to ensure that all the details are perfect, she has been known to stop mid-game to move on to something else if she gets bored.  Still, isn't she brilliant...!?!

She is very adept with the iPad, she observes her big brother very closely and can now operate this device with ease, considering her age!  She very deliberately goes into the apps she likes best (usually ones involving counting or ABCs) avoiding boring things like Facebook (for now!) and needs very little help from an adult to do the activities she likes.  As I mentioned before, we have rarely even seen her play with this particular app, and yet she can demonstrate how it works, no problem!

Last weekend we had a fun afternoon at the park on a sunny but cold Sunday afternoon.  After the park we headed over to the ice rink for the family skate.  While Jordan can skate for short distances on his own (thanks to the skating lessons) this time he was more interested in using the skater trainer.  He especially liked when Daddy would push him around the ice at top speed!  Daddy was able to use this as incentive to get Jordy to skate longer and longer distances on his own in the skater trainer.  This was one of his longer distances.
